The iPSC Core Facility at Washington University in St. Louis is part of the Tissue Culture Support Center within the Department of Genetics and supports investigators in all aspects of the generation, maintenance, and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

Skin Biopsy Processing

The iPSC Core Facility has developed an efficient protocol for the generation of dermal fibroblast cultures from skin punch biopsies. This service is available to investigators for the generation of patient-specific fibroblast lines and their subsequent reprogramming to yield induced pluripotent stem cells.

iPSC Generation and Characterization

The iPSC Core Facility offers multiple reprogramming techniques for the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells from dermal fibroblast cultures. The facility also offers services for the characterization of iPSC lines generated within the facility, as well as those obtained from external sources. Investigators seeking to utilize iPSCs in their research efforts should contact Washington University's ESCRO office before initiating these studies.


The iPSC Core Facility offers training in various techniques related to iPSC maintenance, differentiation, and cryopreservation, as well as fibroblast reprogramming for the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells. Additionally, the facility serves as a repository for protocols related to iPSC maintenance and differentiation. These protocols are made available to investigators throughout the university.

Tissue Culture Support Center

The Tissue Culture Support Center seeks to enhance the in vitro research efforts of Washington University investigators by offering basic tissue culture services and providing access to unique technologies such as Seahorse Biosciences' XF extracellular flux analyzers and Amaxa's 4D Nucleofection platform. Training in basic tissue culture technique as well as the utilization of the various technologies within the facility is also available. In addition, the Tissue Culture Support Center serves as a centralized store that offers a wide array of essential laboratory reagents and consumables at aggressively negotiated prices for your value and convenience.
